About us

Victor Sergent is a designer based in Oberlin, Ohio.  Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was trained as an architect and for over thirty years has created objects in a wide range of media, from sculpture and artisan woodwork pieces to designed and built residential homes.  In his woodwork, he is largely self-taught and studied with local wood artists in the Cleveland-Oberlin area.  He uses locally milled hardwoods to craft unique objects with clean lines and forms for everyday use.

WOODWORK

I began showing my woodwork in 2017.  I learned to work with wood from local craftspeople in the Oberlin area, and am largely self-taught.  My woodwork design concepts are based on my extensive experience in architectural design and the practical design of physical spaces. Every piece has a function, but also has to have a special feature or pattern.  I design the concept for individual pieces, beginning with the form and then integrate details like a special function or patterned combination of woods.  The designs involves an iterative process of hand- and machine-tooling in saw/reassemble techniques.  In my furniture designs, I use different kinds of joinery including mortise and tenon.  All work is my own and each piece is unique.
